The Caterpillar

A Limerick by

Melinda McQueen

The caterpillar inches along,

Wearing only a heavy hat as clothes.

Then one day, finding its wings…

Colorful and bright, it springs

Into a butterfly whose hat is now gone.

It's really pretty poem and I like the metaphor for butterflies representing life and growth. The metamorphosis of the butterfly is quite representative of any type of growth in life and also probably the death and going into heaven type of metaphor and it's really amazing that you can portray that and hear a limerick. Also really like the added picture that accompanies the poem because it is painting a picture that complements the poem. Finally this kind of reminds me of the time and I was in elementary school and my class got to take care of a monarch butterfly and ever since then butterflies or something that I think is really beautiful.
