Tell Them They Can

Tell Them They Can

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Tell Them They Can

Young hearts, young souls,

They take your words into themselves.

They fight battles you will never know.

So, remember, you are their wealth.

Be mindful of what you say,

Because the rest of the world will not.

If you have a special needs child,

Build them up, be their rock.

Teach them to dream big,

And that nothing is out of their reach.

When they dream far and wide,

Don’t tell them they can’t, but help them to believe.

A big job for extraordinary parents,

To fulfilling their every need.

Remember, they need still

For you to believe.

Special parents are you.

You are to be applauded indeed.

For you may feel your work is never done,

As there is always a need.

…And when your child succeeds,

May you sit back and smile, as their biggest fan.

Happy will they be…

Simply by telling them they CAN.

I agree dear Melinda.
…And when your child succeeds,
May you sit back and smile, as their biggest fan.
Happy will they be…
Simply by telling them they CAN."
The above lines. Amazing and we must teach the children. "Dream big and you can do anything." Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

good for you melinda
I really liked this Melinda...haha, my parents need to take this advice, all they ever do is (well...when I say, "they" I mean my dad...my mom's okay) yell at me and tell me what a s**t I am and that I'm such a "pathetic loser" (I will never forget him spitting those words in my face when he had me slammed up against the wall grabbing me by my shirt)...people say that fathers change once they get older and their kids have kids...but I just don't think that's ever gonna be the case...once I finish high school I'm getting out ASAP...neither of my parents is my "rock"...my mom gets yelled at just as much as I do (maybe a little less) and she does NOTHING when my dad treats me like s**t...like...I thought the mother was supposed to defend her child against things like that...but all she does is pretend like it's not happening and plays on her phone...so I guess you could say that I have no "rock"...this is a nice little poem, Melinda...I just wish more people would take your advice :) Thank you for sharing.

Kindly, Nix ❤️️

I'm sorry you have to go through that. No one should go through that, especially not by a parent. .. read more
