Her Whole WorldA Poem by Melinda McQueenHer Whole World
Wind blew through the trees, the branches danced like an old man. Swaying back and forth, yet, holding their stand.
Raindrops spat upon the window which began to dress in condensation. Glass cold to the touch, still, her fingers traced in desperation.
Her heart thundered in her chest, while her hopes were dissolving much like the fog in the window. For a steady stream was evolving.
Though her fingertips were iced, she continued to make swirls…. as though the act would bring him back. He was her world.
The wind picked up, the trees grew angry, threatening to collapse. Their bony arms signaling a plea.
Her hope dashed, but still, she prayed that he would make it home and her world would be okay.
Upon seeing headlights pull in, she was grateful he’d survived. She went to greet him, as her whole world was all right.
