The Silhouette

The Silhouette

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

The Silhouette

In the dim light,
the likeness of a man

appeared in shade,
strong, did it stand.

Though I thought I should,
I couldn’t pull my eyes away.

As I watched, the figure moved not,
but the silhouette remained.

Though I was surprised,
I wasn’t exactly afraid.

More curious to know to whom it belonged…
I, myself felt a bit strange.

For all I felt was peace--
peace that I’ve never felt.

Suddenly, a waterfall of love washed over me,
as to my knees I knelt.

He stayed there
as my comforting stay,
remaining with me
until the break of day.

When I awoke, I thought it a dream,
but when my eyes sought the place we met…
I knew who had visited me; for now in my heart,

I heard the voice of The Silhouette.
