A Castle in the Sand

A Castle in the Sand

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

A Castle in the Sand

A light wind blew through her hair,
which was always calming to her.

But her mind spun

with thoughts in a blur.

A girl of twenty, she had so much raging inside,
she just wanted to escape.

To go away for a while,
to rid herself from the pain.

Like the sand along the shore, she had many dreams,
yet, she’d be happy to have one come true.

She couldn’t see what the future held,
but that her dreams were big, was all she knew.

A woman of forty-two, some of her dreams have come true,
and she couldn’t be happier with how her life has unfolded.

Pressing on, she delights in her blessings,
like a flower beginning to open, she’s being molded.

Being delicately built,
she’s protected on every side.

None will take her down,
upon her Maker, she relies.

Trusting in the Lord,
she puts her life into His hands,
for He’s still sculpting her
as a castle in the sand.
