Pieces of Her Heart

Pieces of Her Heart

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Pieces of Her Heart

In the night,
she twists and turns

She’s had dreams every night--
dreams that within her, churn.

The dreams make no sense,
though they feature loved ones.

Not memories from her past,
but of those she’s always loved.

In her dreams, she’s back in familiar places,
where once she’s lived moons ago.

Yesteryear’s stage becomes an acting play
in her mind’s show.

Those who have passed,
make appearances, as though still here,
back on this side of heaven’s gate.

Still among the living, still near.

In her dreams, though a bit frayed,
she’s visited by feelings bestowed.

She’s resolved to let come…
pieces of her heart to behold
