I Knew the Sky was BlueA Poem by Melinda McQueenI Knew the Sky was Blue
I knew the sky was blue… I knew the grass was green… But I didn’t know How it felt ‘neath my feet.
A girl of a simple life, Albeit a chaotic one. Work instead of play, There was much to be done.
I knew the sky was blue… I knew the grass was green… But I didn’t know How it felt to ride on a bicycle seat.
A girl who learned to dream as high as the sky, Of big things seemingly out of her reach. Who took to heart everything, Always wanting to succeed.
I knew the sky was blue… I knew the grass was green… One day, my Daddy held me on a bicycle And peddled me down the street.
A woman whose dream came true, Stated that there’s no dream too big. Down the aisle he walked me… faith, hope and love, Some things are worth the dig.
I knew the sky was blue… I knew the grass was green… When I was a girl, Daddy planted In the grass my little feet.
