My first attempt at writing a Villanelle

I cannot allow myself to cry,

Over what I have yet to achieve,

As my life begins to slip me by.

I know I am not ready to die,

It is something I just believe.

I cannot allow myself to cry.

If I had wings, to my dreams I'd fly,

But are they there only to deceive,

As my life begins to slip me by.

I might fall here and there as I try,

And as I clean the blood with my sleeve,

I cannot allow myself to cry.

I look deep into the night sky,

for a message I have yet to receive;

As my life begins to slip me by.

Tears begin to well in my eye,

But I will never let them leave.
