Nocturnal Rocking

Nocturnal Rocking

A Poem by Tom Friel

And so watched
Within ourselves
Minds that rivet
Back and forth
Like rocking chairs
Full of
Life
Full of happiness
But mostly failures
That fill our lives
A workman's rock
Perpetually
Hoping like fools
Our nocturnal rocking
Might somehow
Shine away
The ugly dust

Of what we are
