Author's Note

Pryde Foltz
I remember sitting by a koi pond in Japan and noting each fish had its own distinct colouring and marking. One scene stealer even had what clearly resembled the red sun of the Japanese flag on his forehead. The pond was crowded and yet peaceful.

I like your concept here --- Pryde...
there is a place here we go to from time to time and watch those Koi...
seems like there are millions of them swimming...
after a good meal...they say looking at fish can cure headaches...

Be carful how many poems from this book you publish. If people can read them for free they wont by the content. I thought this was very creative and how much did it cost you to get your book on amazon? Im really curious. Great poem

Thank you, Randall.
Indeed, it is a strange sight. I remember this one temple garden that had dozens of the typical golden koi swimming around, popping up to the surface. And then out of nowhere, this massive (probably four and half feet) white and black one swooped in among the gold. They are interesting fish. I find your metaphor of Koi to general harmony to be intriguing. I guess that is one of the reason you will find koi in temple grounds? :P

'nothing more'. That last phrase has an irrevocabilty to it. It gave me a sense of loneliness. In spite of the 'harmony' - to be restricted to those things: flags, birth marks, tattoos. Interesting choices, a permanance to them, like branding, our flag, our nationality, decided for us at birth, like the birth mark, a tattoo, once there, irreversible.
