Dear Amma

Dear Amma,

You look old wrinkled and obese now
But if I am beautiful
It's because of you Amma
Many jenes I must have taken
This one's the most I cherish

You are so innocent and child like
But if I am brave
It's because of you Amma
You have taught me to let go of the worst
Embrace new beginnings with a smile.

You appreciate
Every silly thing in life
I hate that many times
But if I know the value of appreciation
It's because of you Amma
A single good word may make
Even a dead man smile

We are so far yet very near
We don't have those cuddles and hugs anymore
But I know I have a friend
I can yell I can scream and be mad
We get angry at each other
Next morning again we talk
Like we have not spoken for ages

Thank you seems to be a small word
Apart from so many sacrifices you have made
I thank you for allowing me to be me
Adding so many flavours in my life
I wish to celebrate many more years of togetherness

I’m completely fascinated by your message of gratitude to your mom. This is a beautiful tribute that shows life in full reality, with ups & downs, all of which are made better becuz of your connection to your mom. As a person from a family broken by abuse, it’s a breath of fresh air to really feel how it might be to have a healthy relationship with a parent. My favorite part is the way you take some seemingly negative or weak characteristic, then turn it around & let it be the thing you see in yourself as a contribution of mom’s genes. I never knew people in india also call their mother amma as I also call my mom amma lovingly sometimes!!
There's a poem about a granny, a mother and her daughter. I totally forgot that poem title.....but your one is reliable to that....
