When I Grew Up

When I Grew Up

A Poem by Simon Welsh
"

My heart belongs to tomorrow

"

This is the place I left my sadness
and I only took what made me stronger
Pettiness and spite held me back
I was almost afraid of the sun
shining from a new dawn

But I rose above it all
felt the strength within me
My heart belongs to tomorrow
and whatever it holds

I’m not perfect but isn’t that the point?

My wants and desires are constant
but I do not crave the impossible
I’ll fall in love with someone
who embraces the happiness I feel
There’s only so much beauty in the world

Sometimes you can only appreciate what you have
not want you want

But I rose above it all
felt the strength within me
My heart belongs to tomorrow
and whatever it holds

So never dwell in regret
Never give action to envy
If you give to the universe
you should never expect to receive
