A Theory

A Theory

A Poem by Raveness
"

Inspired by Paper Towns by my favorite author John Green. *Please note I loved him before he became mainstream

"
You love me for more than I am.
You love me like an idea, not a person.
I am nothing more than a girl.
I crave attention.
I become moody for no reason.
I lie about petty things.
Yes I love Mountain Dew.
Mysteries, 80's movies,
John Green, and maroon nail polish
But I am not your opinion of me
I have more flaws than I care to admit
Please love me for me
Not for the idea you feel I represent.
That would be my biggest pitfall,
To not meet up to your expectations
Because those expectations are nothing but a theory,
A word, or a song
It brings me great sadness to say this,
But if you love me for more than I am
I can not love you back
Or at least I will try...

Great work! The poem is clearly concise with the title and doesn't stray. You managed to hold the theme together pretty well.
I believe that you make a point as well with the first line "You love me for more than I am". I believe you expressed your point here: that men love women just because they can. The same goes vice versa. Most people in this century seem to love and grab boyfriends and girlfriends just to show that they can.
That line really caught my attention. I am glad someone was able to portray my beliefs in such a fine poem.

Raveness, You say you have an old soul, but the message in this is simply worldly. My favorite poet is Anne Sexton, she wrote from her soul ABOUT her soul; they called her style "Confessional Poetry." You exhibit some of her qualities, and if you don't know of her I guarantee you that my statement is a very big compliment. I don't usually quote lines in my reviews but this passage stood out: "You love me like an idea, not a person." Perfect. take care...dan

The poem tone was honest and the emotion felt real. Love is never timely or correct.
"But if you love me for more than I am
I can not love you back
Or at least I will try..."
I did like the ending. Some hope for the want of love. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome.
A person should always love another for more than their looks. To look past expectations is worth it from what I've experienced. Your last two lines are a tad confusing. But overall, this was worth the read.
