The Man in the Mirror

The Man in the Mirror

A Story by Rick Slark

The Man in the Mirror

When did my dark brown hair, become so snowy white?

When did my stomach grow this little paunch?

Wasn’t it only a few days ago that I was playing football with my pals, until our dads whistled us in for dinner?

When did these wrinkles appear on my brow?

It seems like yesterday, my biggest worry was would Jane go to prom with me.

When did my trust in others fade, and my hopes for humanity dim?

Where have I stored those youthful dreams I had not long ago?

Sadly, my thoughts roam the same dusty corridors as yours. Oh, to be forty again.
