afterlife

A Poem by Light

farewell is never easy.

to breathe knowing that Your breath

had withered through the ravage of years,

to know, I never had of You

but a bunch of words

and Your devout fingertips.

that I will never have of You

only what's flowing inside me

of water, hidden and divine.

I will always feel You.

and melt down the waterfall,

to rise with the echoes

then meet You in the sublimity,

where Your spirit caresses the Sun

mellow beams; fruits of Your illumination.

I will always lust You

through the savage sounds

in the genteel glitters,

presences of heaven;

exuding though the wildness.

 me from thereLove

beyond the measures of page

in Your mystical ways.

spiritual bonds know no earth,

and though I was never Your beloved,

but here I touch my own fate

in the primal wildness

on my lips;

insatiable~ ever for You.

It is difficult to tell whether this poem refers to life after death or to life after the end of a relationship. There is definitely a sense of finality to the work. In fact, the image of the breath withering under the ravaging of the years in verse one seems indeed to indicate a bodily death. As the poem progresses, however, it can also be understood as illustrating the void that remains when a deep relationship ends. Verse two contains some beautiful imagery that suggests this. Verse three continues the trend (You might consider substituting another word for lust, which is not a verb.).Verse four commences rather strangely, and the poet might consider rewriting the first line, which is difficult to understand as is. The rest of the verse is beautiful, however, promising an ongoing love despite circumstances. This is a deeply moving work overall, a hymn to love's persistence in the midst of grief.

Bravo, Bravo and encore for more!. Your words echo so tenderly at each and every door. This piece has taken hold of mind heart and body and is so real to me.. having recently suffered loss of a spiritual and physical kind. These words are a comfort to those who have 'suffered' same. Re read I know but present circumstances have prompted this.

From the picture to the words, to the message, water lubricates desire in so many ways and you have written that water in a perfect portrait. I think we have received the "fruits of Illumination" on this one Light. Great work, love the moving picture.

There is something so sacred flowing through your words, like a cleansing rain. One can feel the deepest love, not letting go even when life flows into afterlife. So extravagant, this insatiable, mystical loving.

Dear Light, your posted image is one of living beauty. I enjoyed its movement. Your lines speak to me of a parting. I understood it to be the end of a either a friendship or a life. What comes across clearly to me is that the love does not end within you. That will continue to flourish even though the circumstances have changed. I always find your poetry to be uplifting and full of hope. We all need that at times. I thank you for your beautiful poetry this morning.

so do I ~~~
I feel this as the other woman, looking in from the outside, getting the crumbs from a relationship, but wanting more. But it's also a relationship that has stood the test of time. So possibly this is the real relationship and the other, if it's a marriage, is dead.

Somehow, while reading this piece I was reminded of Pablo Neruda and some of his poems that I've read and liked (flattery aside ;P)
Your first verse, and especially the first line, really touches me. It is so hard indeed to say goodbye. We still keep holding on, whether to memories or their words which keep echoing in our minds... I love the way you emphasized on one word in each verse btw and I absolutely love when poems are aligned in a specific way to read than just laid out casually.
Beautiful piece, Light.

Sad the way Fate it seems plays that cruel game! We live with thoughts of regrets but be accepting of what must be and move on believing in an afterlife where things will fall into place and realize that destiny dictates the human form/human life. A very sincere and moving piece 'Little Butterfly'. No 'critique' can honestly be offered at this beautiful piece. Stay as sweet as you are! Have a lovely week!
