Shackled

Shackled

A Poem by Rainbowco

I feel the heat settling upon the night.
Tormenting me the coolness of the pillow
Where only yesterday your head lay.

I will not grieve for your touch, feel, scent.
How could I? You are here, still flowing
Through my thoughts with every breath.

I dare not sigh, a movement even so slight
Cascades over me such waves of sorrow
And, this drenching I would delay.

I will not dismiss nor for the sake of peace, repent.
How could I remain sane by not believing
The possible existence of living death?

I watch the kite, loose on autumn’s wind
Unlike it, I remain … shackled
Holding tight to the string of broken vows
Forever.
