The wiggly kitten and the ball of wool

The wiggly kitten and the ball of wool

A Poem by Candle in the wind

The wiggly kitten found the ball of wool
It was rolled up sloppily and had gathered dust on the shelf
The kitten snuggled against it with its soft warmth
Then started pushing it around with his little paws
Nibbling at it with his sharp teeth
Tugging the strands of wool
The little kitten was frisky
The ball of wool was ecstatic
It was getting unwound
The kitten was shivering in the chilly breeze so it snuggled closer
The wool was wound all around his furry frame
He spent so much time with that ball of wool
Gave so much of himself

Before long the wool was in a tangled mess

The kitten was distracted when it saw a beckoning flash of light
He leapt out of the tangled strands snapping some while he went
The ball of wool was happy to see the kitten twirling around in glee
Basking in the warmth of a distant glow
But it couldn’t wind itself back.
This was a forlorn happiness
The euphoria was over.

The tangled mess cringes when it hears the kitten whine,
Let the kitten be enveloped in warmth and laughter
And remain an untarnished free spirit.

"This brings happiness in reading and makes me smile to think of carefeee days spent knitting my cat scarfs and things. Now my current cat doesn't need a scarf since I live in Florida! A great poem, nicely written. Very lovely!"
Such fantastic symbolism and meaning behind this. Your writing gives me a very happy feeling reading it.

The second verse with the wool untwound seems to sum up life ... there we are 15-20 a little ball of wool and then there we are arbout 25-105 ... all unwound. By which time of course the kitten is a skulking, cunning killer of little song-birds. Though when I read the third verse the kitten is still innocent! So the poem ends positve.

What an absolutely lovely write and I especially love that in places you wrote from the point of the view of not only the kitten, but the ball of yarn. What a novel approach and it works perfectly.

I loved the title before I even read the poem.

Poor wool; but it's nice that it regards its sacrifice as worthwhile.
What was the flash of light? I read it as first as a tragedy, like maybe a car headlight and the kitten was hurt -
"The tangled mess cringes when it hears the kitten whine" but the poem seems to be an uplifting message rather than a tragic story...so maybe it was sunlight or something positive(?)

Yo've created a lovely, carefree piece here.
Thanks for posting it (and thanks for reviewing me).

If only kittens could speak to us. I think they would teach us more about life and having fun then anything we know already. Freedom of the cat spirit is so important to so many people across the globe. I think these words stamped an image in the minds of many, just how important it is to let those wild and funloving felines make their own path in life. After all. We are not their masters. We are a cats servants. Great job here!

That's a very unusual thought...portrayed very well. The feeling of the inanimate wool has been put very nicely.

I suppose you love kittens just as i do.

Good write,
Shinjini
