The Raindrops kissed the earth...

The Raindrops kissed the earth...

A Poem by Candle in the wind
"

This was inspired by the contest where poems had to be written using the phrase " the raindrops kissed the earth and whispered" As we are wilting in the scorching heat of summer here this phrase inspired me and thus this poem looking forward to

"

The raindrops kissed the earth and whispered

"We have come to quench your thirst

To drench your parched soul"

The drops seeped in through the cracks

Of the dry barren chest of the earth

Softened the hard sun baked crust

Bathed the wilted shrivelled plants

And ushered in the hope of life

An outburst of green and a riot of colours

With the delightful symphony

Of the welcome showers

The pitter patter of the drops

The rumbling clouds

And the flashes of lightening

To dispel the scorching heat

I agree with Nuala...this brings refreshing to my soul as well. There is just something about rain...something we don't get too much of here in the DESERT. Because of that when we are graced with it, I want to walk in it or sit on the front porch and breathe in the fresh air as it pelts the ground. Afterwards, I love the clean smell after the earth has been cleansed of all of the excess dust. As always, an amazing choice of words and brilliant imagery! :-)

Oh my, this was such a beautiful piece, filled with brilliantly vivid images. Who knew rain could sound so appealing right now.
You have really outdone yourself with this one - breathtaking!

Such a wonderfully vivid image you paint here. It is exactly what I need to read. As it spoke to me about hope and possibilities. Went the rain comes new life and a chance renewing the world in which we live. In the heart of those whom believe in the capabilities that can be reached through just trying and have faith in such things. I applaud you and your words for renewing my convictions.

Great Job!!!!!!!

Apologies dear friend if I didn't get back to commenting on this poem.
I have read it of course and it was in my list of winners for the contest.
And if I'd had a runner up this would have been it!

Very artfully done, wonderful, wonderful imagery. All in all a superb poem!

This has been beautifully written, very refreshing indeed. I found a great sense of imagery in it and brilliant visualization...I'm counting days for rainy season to arrive :)

The first pic is really beautiful and is going very well with the entire writing..
Awesome flow and lovely usage of words..Thanks a lot for sharing it here :)

I really enjoyed this Raj, it is such a refreshing piece of work. I need a drink of water now! We have so little rain here that you made me thirsty and that alone shows your writing talents. I liked your choice of words and formation, very descriptive; wilted shrivelled plants...leaves no doubt in the way of imagery...beautiful!!

I'm so happy to read your delightful poem. It's a drink for my soul. It's amazing how beautiful poetry, such as yours here, can bring such healing when someone is not feeling good. Your poetry quenches as does your story within the poem. It's such a wonderful reminder of how water and rain is so welcomed ...
..."And ushered in the hope of life
An outburst of green and a riot of colours
With the delightful symphony
Of the welcome showers
The pitter patter of the drops..."
What a fantastic visual to think of "a riot of colours" and that irridescent look water has to it in drops and then the sound as you describe so lovely as a "delightful symphony" and through your words I can hear the rain..."kissing the earth and whispering."
Stunning and a magnificent poem!
