Forty

Forty

A Poem by Raven Starhawk

Forty years ago
Existence molded a being of disadvantage
As wasted flesh married agony
And agony bore a unforgiving disappointment
Known as Mary

Light befell darkness
Followed by tragedy and disappointment
Thus provoking realization
That hopes and dreams
Should never bare fruit
As Mary is the product of failure
