Roads and Shadows

Roads and Shadows

A Poem by Mr Alednac

The road continuously curves
the shadows follow.
Yellow and dim headlights
Obscures further into darkness.
Hills looming over and under
The desolate barns on both sides.
A shadow stares at me from the doorway
Cobwebs and ghosts inhabit the empty buildings.
Thinning branches stretch out to the black sky
Its bony fingers reaching out ritualistically.
Curve to the right curve to the left
Fear of the unknown ahead.
I am lonely but not alone
The country road and shadows
hang heavy on my soul.
Uncertainty ahead
chased from behind
I don't know which is worse
