Rules

Rules

A Poem by Redherring

What happened to us?

I faintly remember days free of worry.

But lately you have me constantly saying sorry.

You who made me feel so sure

Get your kicks out of me being so damn insecure

You claim to play by the rules.

But we all look like fools when they change according to you.

We’re all players in the same game.

Some of us get the benefit of fairer rules

Others must suffer with your whims and what they choose.

Make me scream, make me cry

On my knees, begging why

Should I stop? Should I try?

All for some stupid, infuriating lie.

These days I’m flying too close to the sun

But if I don’t get higher, I’ll never be able to run.

God this sucks.

So damn much.

It’s impossible to get back to the way things were.

When the rules you live by apply to me and not her.

You keep a pretty face

Hard to believe it’s just mask

Unfortunately I now know there’s no moving past

The trials you’ve put me through

Because you choose to abuse my trust by flaming your lust

By exposing my hidden truths.

I have a lot of things to say to the world. As much as I'd love to be able to bring about peace and harmony and prosperity for everyone I just don't have that power. I have grown sick and tired of sup.. more..
