The Novelty Of Self Disclosure Brought Fading Heat To Our Mouths

The Novelty Of Self Disclosure Brought Fading Heat To Our Mouths

A Poem by Reverent

my brain does this thing where it destroys everything beautiful about the world

does yours

cause i’d like to know if i’m alone in what feels like

a burning house

and i’m playing courage games on a falling roof

with no shoes

just one slip and i’d have nothing to prove

or do

do you think it’s cute how it’s always the darkest parts of you

that anyone wants to hear about

don’t you think it’s funny how there’s a piece in our heads

that says

feed the beast inside

and where are the end times

you are good and you are golden

tongued

so heavy handed i will cut your insides

out

tell me why i should open my eyes

and face the crowd, i know now

nothing good ever comes from waking up

or talking out

i am the water that doesn’t fill

i am the star that tricks the

boat away from shore

and sinks it whole

i used to think that i was good

when i was young

but i've become like rocks inside your lungs

or slow poison on your tongue

and even when everything is good

i make it wrong

i wanted to believe in anyone or anything

but I don’t trust myself to love enough
