A Poem by Rikkevi Rue
"

a very long poetic story...about the lot of human kind

"

Floating down in a silver shimmer

luminous flight- reflects a sheen

never seen yet so familiar

other world “we’ve never been”

whirling cloud of mist surrounds

a storm cloud settles on the ground.

Ship of the stars- imagined long

leads a fleet a thousand strong

like storm clouds marching ever on

stretching out ‘cross the heavens

alas they come, at last have come.

Her shields protect from danger- all

advanced beyond Earth’s weapons- null

with alien kinesis parts the hull

glimpse inner light- ethereal

with silent grace a platform lowers

reclining on his throne-like bower

the scepter wields, elite command

their leader steps upon our sands.

“Hail, Oh men of Earth” he cried

his calm commanding voice did rise

demeanor standing tall and wise

deep grey omniscient piercing eyes

“beseech your leaders gather hither

from every nation here deliver

ten thousand years have finally passed

to reckon we have come at last

the trial you now must fail or pass.”

Before him then Earth’s leaders gathered

from every continent-all that mattered

none excluded, groomed or tattered

for but a few belief was shattered.

“When last we parted on these sands

the task was squarely in your hands

to guide the fate of planet Earth

we left you here to test your worth.

Commandments were suggested then

sage scriptures given to your kin

that you might climb back up again

rejoin the ranks of civil men.”

A silver light then shown from in

the ship, on an invisible screen

projected to the air surrounding

all those men in wonder gazing

towering in living color

historic scenes of Earth- The Mother

recorded in the aliens annals

from secret satellited cameras

the dawn of man in pictures hovered

full story of Earth’s past recovered.

“From planet Home- the Justice Hall

you each were measured ‘gainst your fall

your guilt was in the record-entered

the question of your sentence-tendered

‘Send down to never waking sleep

for deeds we will not here repeat,

or place within your hands to keep,

the future path to stray or cleave?’

Quick memory wipe no trace to leave

then sent to Earth your fate to weave.”

“Here let the reckoning begin

to valuate your worth again

your actions past in every land

the consequence from sand to sand

upon Earth’s face your mark now shows

from mountains high to valleys low

w’er done with love or done with hatred

the evidence you have created.”

Where stand now those cities burgeoning

gracefully built from artists urgings?

Their simple beauty- chests to swell

proof that men could yet do well.

Where now the pride of Athens, Sparta

Minoans Crete, Phoenicians Carthage

graceful Knossos, fair Mycenae?

Nowhere to be found today.

Grecian architecture-sculpture

gone with Egypt, Rome, their culture

gone are Mayans, Aztecs, Incas

little left but ruins and trinkets.

Efforts great we made to guide you

from afar space aid supplied you!

Even those you built yourselves

grand cathedrals, gothic wealth

inspired within your middle ages

few survived your wars and rages.

Now decayed and ruinous falling

from your vain incessant squalling

culture raised by Renaissance

destroyed by hateful ruler’s flaunt.

Where shines the light of Alexandria

greatest library of the land yet

all the books, wise scrolls and pages

gathered there from down the ages?

Ancient beauties from the East

lost for want of lasting  peace.

Persian leader’s grand Persepolis

all the wisdom that they brought us

gone with Babylon’s hanging gardens

such a loss that few could pardon…

No porpoise, whale, grey seal or otter

frolic now beneath the water

no teeming schools ten millions strong

now grace the Oceans with their song

the skies are void of winds disciples

driven way by jets and rifles

albatross, condors, eagles, falcons

ne’er return in vain we hearken

currents only they decipher

waves of wind to surf-delight or

perhaps to skirt the path of man

perhaps to make their own last stand.

Where stand those vast primordial forests

sequoias, redwoods commune-in-chorus

silent to those deaf of sentience

racial memories reached back millennia.

Home of boundless life and beauty

natures balance-kept, their duty

creatures horned and furred and feathered

harbored succored from harsh weather

greatest breadth of life there spanning,

by divine omniscient planning

Now your populations starving

riches of the earth you’re carving

governments exploit their people

morals sliding to a deep hole

children are controlled by mind-drugs

only chance is gangs-or-be-thugs

more and more devoid of conscience

How do you explain this nonsense?

First Earth’s leaders stoned to silence

this- no problem solved by violence

finally they tried explaining

visibly his patience waning

stern and cold the alien staring

pierced the gaze of each, uncaring

“So these crimes we here decry

though you shirk-you can’t deny!

Soon their will be nothing left here”

sweeping cross the scene his scepter.

Shouted then Earth’s people-gathered

“they condoned the crimes that mattered!”

Pointing lamely at their leaders

lacking shame, scared sick defeaters

chided stern the alien speaker

“Is it them or you is weaker?

clearly this has been your failing

empowering those create your ailing

before you seek to blame these men

remember you elected them!”

-------

“Now you’ll see the fate awaits you

let the truth within debate to

view with reason all you’ve fostered

sadly, for your Earth you’ve lost her.”

Once again the air surrounding

filled with towering pictures mounting

planets small and planets lofty

each revolving slowly, softly

pictures zoomed up close to explore

shrinking back they gasped in horror

There before them captured beauty

every other planet truly

bountiful with life resplendent

every form that on Earth ended

verdant forests, emerald waters

every species nature offers

all with people so harmonious

evidence Earth was erroneous.

Then the scene with darkness filled

to deathly silence all was stilled

world of light to darkness blackening

an orb like Earth with all life lacking

all the waters turned to acid

all the life forms dead and flaccid

in  a cloud of purple gasses

round the planet slowly passes

spirits lost beyond all mending

frozen orbit never ending.

Jolting upright drenched at waking

icy sweat his pulse hard-racing

just as horrid as it seemed

thank God that it was just a dream

panicked by the image hurling

in his dream the purple swirling

drawn back to the present day

fear unpleasant sure to say

from the couch as he is rising

hears the TV, voice despising

country’s leading politician

clearly stating his position:

Something must be done this moment

curb this vile uprising foment

ignorant these vain protestors

like a foul disease that festers

what know they of nature’s design

they’re just drunk on protest’s wine

vainly touting their own wishes

over a few birds and fishes?

One day they will come to thank

we who lead, respect our rank”

Numbly the man sat back down

deep despair grew from his frown

sinking slowly to his couch

worry bending to a slouch

he wondered if it was too late,

what would be his planet’s fate?

Meanwhile far far out in space

past Earth’s atmospheric trace

floated a peculiar ship

‘cross the universe her trip

cloudlike swirl peculiar vision

waiting to fulfill her mission…

I cannot believe that this has not been given any reviews!! Shameful..I admit I saw a long poem and thought 'oh no' (lacking patience) but this is outstanding..your story is interesting, original, L Ron Hubbard feel to the idea. Your tight meter is impeccable, with consistent rhyme that keeps it together and you never go off course just to fit a rhyme (bravo)..the ending is superb, the dream and then the ship sitting out in space..well I am so impressed, a worthy read and a firm favorite :)

Hello, Rick! :)
I enjoyed the story. It seems familiar. If the gods or aliens come to judge us, we're screwed. Haha
We are animals. Everything we do is as natural as any other. If we blacken the earth, it will bounce back, and maybe give the lizards another run.

Right?! I wrote this about 10 years ago...a treatment today would be far more cynical and caustic! .. read more
Nicely done... has a feel of old sci-fi -The Day the Earth Stood Still comes to mind. An inventive and reflective study of humanity and the catastrophe that we cannot seem to divert...

excellent composition~ flawless rhytmic patterns that pound the hindbrain like a pulse~you tell a tale that draws the cinematic through the surreal in vivid and vibrant textures and speaks to multilayers of being and existence~

I agree that the people are fools to believe that they are weaker than their government and that they have no right to stand up to the apointed leaders.I also believe that we should not be blamed for the evils that we have no control ove rlike h.A.R.P. Hauldon collider, chemtrails.I believe that the illuminati is trying to kill 80% of the population through the codex alimentarious and agenda 21.
Honestly I believe bible and our whole history has been distorted to prepare us
The poem is thought prevoking and I enjoyed it.I am looking forward to reading ore by you

This is astonishing work! Truly, I am reeling after this! lol Absolutely amazing love! There is such a tale like quality to this prose, paced well, story told in a manner that wrenches the reader from their seat!
Left on a note that intrigues the reader to continue thinking! Sci-fi type hit with a punch of mystical quality, kudos friend! Seriously! :)

2,000+ years encapsulated in a minor epic release---tall task, indeed! You did it quite a good service and, given the angle of the narrator, created a plausible account and interpretation.

My only knee-jerk was in this stanza:

"Now your populations starving

riches of the earth you’re carving

governments exploit their people

morals sliding to a deep hole

children are controlled by mind-drugs

only chance is gangs-or-be-thugs

more and more devoid of conscience

How do you explain this nonsense?"

The 'issue' that I had was the dramatic alteration of voice and verbiage--it's as if you took a brief moment to rant--which may be tactical, I suppose..

All-in-all...nice work!

An excellent story-line... and a spine chilling ending. Quite a reprimand for us earthlings and rightly so... 'few survived your wars and rages'... yes, indeed. And as for nature 'driven way by jets and rifles' - 'deep despair' couldn't be closer the truth. It's all very true, and thought-provoking stuff for those of us who aren't quite yet 'devoid of conscience.'

I agree with Poetic Justice..."I cannot believe that this has not been given any reviews!!" must be a way to advertise a poem like this, and have it read by more people...They are missing out, I am glad I didn't

Bravo!...Applause!!.
Before I read this , I saw how long it was...and kinda groaned...but

Then I started reading it, and it read with a cadence similar to Hiawatha, or other Longfellow poem..and not in the drone of Dante...
.
I loved the whole poem, and I know it took a long time to write...but it was worth it Rikki.
.
After careful thought, I have chosen this as the most profound stanza, the one that made me read it twice..
.
"Now your populations starving
riches of the earth you’re carving
governments exploit their people
morals sliding to a deep hole
children are controlled by mind-drugs
only chance is gangs-or-be-thugs
more and more devoid of conscience
How do you explain this nonsense?"
.
After it was revealed that this was a dream..but was it just a premonition?
.
"Meanwhile far far out in space
past Earth’s atmospheric trace
floated a peculiar ship
‘cross the universe her trip
cloudlike swirl peculiar vision
waiting to fulfill her mission"
.
Excellent ending to an excellent poem...
