Adjustable Conscience

Adjustable Conscience

A Poem by Jerome F Knox III pseudonym Nefarious J. Dorsey
"

"
I have waged war
In distant lands
I have had so much
Blood on my hands
I have taken more
Sheep to the slaughter
Even in chaos
I still maintain order
Why?

Because no matter
Who dies
Who cries
Who lies
Who am I ?
Sigh
I am the villian
They send in
To do the killing
How do I feel
They ask
As I bask
In the darkness
See my
Conscience
Remains clear
As I pray on the
Fears of many
See
There isn't
Any redemption
For me or
For the things
I have done
My actions
Maybe

Deployable but
Waging war
is enjoyable
Only because

My conscience
Is adjustable
I am not
Responsible
Or accountable
Still I adjust
My conscience
At will
That is how I
Am able to kill

" what good is your conscience if it can't be adjusted?" In order to do some of the dirty stuff you have to detached in order to get the desired results.

some who send others to war, they must adjust their conscience to feel minimum guilt...especially when it is a war that has no good purpose...but then, do any of them?

well done poem, Rico
