What Happens When A Dream Becomes Stale?

What Happens When A Dream Becomes Stale?

A Poem by Jerome F Knox III pseudonym Nefarious J. Dorsey

What happens when a dream
Becomes stale?
As peace is left starving because
All hope has failed
What happens to those who
Hunger and thirst
Still relying on the biblical verse(s)
That the first shall be last and
The last shall be first
And that the meek shall inherit
The Earth
Yet, we still hurt and are
In so much pain
That when we speak
We believe that the
Sun will never shine again
So,
What happens when a dream
Turns into a nightmare
As the down trodden
Yields to anger and despair
Only to realize that being
Disenfranchised
Is part of a bigger plan
That few of us understand
That is why
It is harder for us
To keep our eyes
On the prize
When we know that
The pot of gold that is
At the end of the rainbow
Is not meant for Negroes
And is the reason why
Trayvon is gone
As White Supremacists,
Facist, and Extremist
Are quick to dismiss
That democracy is not
Meant for people that
Look like me
As insurrection is being used
To make corrections
To an election
In effort to change
The direction of democracy
In the midst of a pandemic
As systemic
Racism
Is one of the reasons
That people of color
Don't dream anymore
Still,
On Capitol Hill
The words of one
Led some to go astray
Leading the way
No longer allowing
Their version of
The American dream
To be deffered
So what they offered
Instead is bloodshed
As five are dead
As this attack on democracy
Mirrors the Sons of Liberty
That led to the Revolutionary War
Taxation and the lack of representation
Is a similar situation with a sleight
Variation as the causation
Required no magician as the
Only thing that was missing
Was common sense
As the rhetoric was so intense
That dreams became sidelined
As the words of a leader
Served to undermine
As his cult would revolt
Giving a jolt to his propaganda
As his agenda remains the same
As his endgame
Is to cause destruction and pain
For his own selfish gain
So on this day what can we
Say about MLK as his dream
Fades with every passing day
As some of this is our own fault
As we keeping putting salt
In our own wounds
Still,
We are not changing our tunes because
We are not in tune with our intellect
As they orchestrate the music
Of hate for us
As it will B major
Because we don't C the minor
Details that
Our dreams fail and fall flat
Because we will be forever stuck
Where we are at instead of
Where we could be
Only we can change our
History and destiny

Democracy is for everyone....everyone.
And those who think like that need to go find another country or some island on which to live.
Yes, only we can change our history, and we must.
I am reminded here of langston hughes..."dream deferred" which is sometimes referred to as
"Harlem"---
when deferred too long the dream will stink like rotten meat/ dry up like a raisin in the sun/

but in the end might explode...either disappear totally or explode into fruition.
really strong piece here...it jumps off the page and slaps the reader in the mind.
