waiting for my wife to wake up...

The Answer

Perhaps, he thought, now that I am older,
Just maybe, there is a hole in the wall.

Of course he'd looked before.
And for years he'd assumed that first look was...
Well, all there could be, so he'd never returned.

He'd tried everything- walking left and walking right, forever it seemed.
Climbing over (no ladder and anyway he was afraid of high places).
Waiting. He sat down and waited and waited. It didn't go away.

Anyway, on his sixty-fifth birthday,  he got in his car and drove over there. It wasn't far.
The wall, the huge unending and massive thing was gone!
He felt amazed. How could such a big thing be gone like it never was.

But it was. He saw the other side was the same.
The same trees, grass, and dirt. Same people. Just the same.

By now he knew it would be.
That the wall had only been in his mind...
And the answer was in each breath.

I have to admit that I spent a lot of time try to break down that wall!
