addicted

A Poem by Marlice Morgan

I follow you down until I hit the bottom
Following a love that only lives inside of me
You reached out and said baby hold on tight
then watched as I  drowned in your dark sea

Buried in a nightmare I thought that it was bliss
addicted to the pain
addicted to your darkness

My dreams are being ripped away
I sit back and watch it happen
like a slow motion film where the ending is tragic

I can see it from a mile away, the death of an angel
I keep it to myself, pretend not to see,
blinded by a love that only lives inside of me

let him take over you, heal you with his magic
try not to tremble, try not to panic
like a love sick child I keep letting you back in
I brake down and cry when I can feel the end

Buried in a nightmare I thought that it was bliss
addicted to the pain
addicted to your darkness

You paint a really vivid picture of obsession. I really like your repetition of “a love that only lives inside of me” - really hits home for me and puts me back in places I’ve been. I’ve explored similar themes in my work. Nice piece.

I do understand that kind of dependance. Lived for about 15 years in a marriage with a narcissist. Those dark relationships are higly destructive. Beautiful how you express it. It helps to heal.
