That Greener Grass

That Greener Grass

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

What's really on the other side of the fence?

"

That greener grass on your side

makes you look so smug

but I have had a closer look;

it’s full of weeds and bugs

You may feed that show-off turf;

loads of manure  does cover it.

Say what you will about my yard,

at least my lawn’s not counterfeit

I’d rather have some bare patches

and holes show through the green

than have a neighborhood trophy

of things not as they seem.

Hmm. Apparently still thinking about phonies and show-offs...

And for the record I despise chemical lawns, and adore my gopher holes!!!
Quite not so tongue in cheek that sharp wit :)
Wonderful Write Rita!!!

Haha! Yes, they do - and I certainly prefer my brown patches and dog-dug holes! Thank you!
A concept of prime importance, I think. On a deeper level, it isn't just about phonies and show-offs, but of things not being as we envisioned them to be. Perspective is what life is all about, isn't it? Neatly written!

Your poems are full of domestic ideas that I lack. I'm greatly inspired by your poems to write similar poems. I stopped my momentum after the first verse on this one. This verse was a joy to write. It's good practice for me. You may keep this verse as your own to do with as you wish.

Lawn

That green lawn within your fence
seems to be the best,
but in spite of your expense
it's worse than the rest.
