Muser

Muser

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

He's the monster in my room at night...

"

There’s a muser in my bedroom

he lives under the bed

he tries to keep me up all night

with dark thoughts in my head

He whispers possibilities

that I’ve not contemplated,

the ways in which my happy life

could turn to be ill-fated

When I was small, the light switch

chased bedroom beasts away

but once he digs his claws in,

there’s no keeping him at bay

And so I let him ruminate

and walk across my mind

where he runs into a sunbeam

and then leaves me behind

A fun poem Rita. I had vision of a little devil (Rita in red PVC with a pointy tail and fork) egging you on to be 'naughty' and you thinking about how delicious it would be to give in then Boom and the little devils gone. Aww...theres always next time..

Ha! I try not to listen to that little devil, but she's so convincing... Thanks, Anto!
Oooooo, Rita, this starts out a little dark. As I was reading it, I remembered as a child fearing the boogeyman under the bed. Also the Metallica lyrics from "Enter Sandman" came to mind.
"Hush little baby, don't say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
It's just the beast under your bed,
In your closet, in your head"

Then you chase it away with your sunshiny personality and that's that.
I enjoyed this very much. You're an amazing poet with an incredible imagination.

Something about your writing (in some of the pieces I have read) really reminds me of children's books, and rhymes. Especially the older rhymes which are actually pretty scary (i.e. original Grimm brother tales). The rhyme is light, but then the dark content juxtaposes really nicely. Well done!

Thank you so much, LM! That is quite a compliment, much appreciated!
Oh he better! he don't know who he messing with! ;)

Good a thing things to be thankful for in life are indeed many
for them to take plenty room in your head;
that way the silly misery muser with evil thoughts a'plenty,
would trip on your joy excess and drop dead!
Phillippians 4:8 is just the perfect scripture
i most humbly prescribe,
for that pesky, peace chasing bugger
who in your mind has no right to reside.

Thank you for another good one Rita, it's inspired me (as you can see...) lol :)

Hi Rita. I like this poem and the dark humor of it. I think we've all had a 'muser' under our bed's at one time or another. I can certainly relate to the feelings expressed in your poem. Good imagery and flow. Good depth of feeling; you are a gifted storyteller and it's always a pleasure to read your poetry. You give us much to think about. Excellent closing verse. Well penned. Write on!

Shoot the little shithead with an AR-15. It's the civilian equivalent of the M16. If that doesn't work get yourself a prescription for Xanax

This write seems to me like the sex is one-sided and not enjoyed by both. I could be wrong but that is what I got from it... Of course there are other ways to look at it...A very good write...:)

:) you always write in such a way to draw a smile from me, this was no different, something about your poetic voice is quite quirky. I like your last stanza, it's a wonderful end to a beautiful poem.

Thank you, Rocans! "Quirky" is a word that describes me well... :)
Ahh, Honey...no mere muser can survive for very long around the sunshine that is you.
I could almost feel sorry for the poor muser monster...he's definitely fighting a losing battle.
How can he hope to win with a girl who sneezes rainbows and craps unicorns??????
Never gonna happen!!

Cute write, my Little Bird...very well done!!
Thank you for making me smile this morning...I needed it.

Ah, the bane of the poet! He stops you resting at night and stops you doing stuff you ought to do while you`re awake! Well done, Rita. P.
