Unsweetened

Unsweetened

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

It’s been a while...

"
I question the wisdom
of biting the lemon - not quenching,
but adding to the thirst
and reveling
in the sour
Straight up - it will be bitter every time
(and the adage does say we are what we eat...)
But it’s in the bowl,
and there’s nectar in the cupboard
(all the way in the back -
you haven’t used it in over a year...
keep looking...
there it is!)
Now, when you realize
that the sweet
is so much better, remember -
it’s up to you
to stir it up.

Well, it all comes down to a matter of taste and preference in the end, doesn't it? I take my coffee and my tea without sugar. English Breakfast tea has always tasted sweet to me, even without sugar. I might add a few drops of that lemon though. :) I used to take tequila with my lemon but those days are long behind me. I enjoyed your reflection on the love of life's sweeter things. I have visions of Pooh bear carrying his pot of golden "hunny".

:) Love the Pooh reference - and he certainly knows how to appreciate the sweeter things. Thank you.. read more

You're pleasantly goofy, Rita. I'm into your content, instead of you. You're a fum ducker, and that is alright. You're abstract content gets me stirred, Rita. I promise not to make you out to be a mascot that much, but given your content...

I stir all the time. Great work, Rita! I'm thinking of the jar of molasses I tend to ignore. I get it

But you still shine when it comes to allegory, and this is a perfect example...

"stir it up!"
a really good Johnny Nash song.
