![]() ChainsA Poem by Rose DiamondWe are all prisoners Encased in glass And bound by chains We were born in this jail Swaddled in metal and rust too young to understand That where we took our first breath We also take our last Never exploring the world outside our cells Never imagining the chains lifting Never wanting them to For the moment those chains drop The split second we shatter the glass We see the world as it truly is We see ourselves as we truly are And though I feel that I am ready I'm scared Scared to see the monster that shares my identity But as each day goes by The chains get tighter And the glass begins to crack I can't live like this anymore I'd rather be a monster Than a prisoner to my own mind
