Rationalize

So many lifetimes I have known you, I am sure

In a moment I was smitten by you, surely hypnotized
Many lifetimes ago, our eyes first met on the battlefield
Your pupils glimmered against your dark velvet skin
Filled with a rage inflicted by eternities of war
In a stunned moment you could have taken my life with the sword
Yet you spared it with a tender glace
In your dreams ever after fantasized
It was me that your heart could not rationalize

I shared a moment captivated by all that you were that varied from me, surely entranced
Many life's ago, in the country
Mere children then, we could not see our separation by royalty or slavery
Only the desire to know the other, to love and in that reality somehow sin
Yet to have you or to have me was forever that life forbidden
Yet still, in my dreams ever after, fantasized
It was you that my heart could not rationalize

Many years ago in a world torn again by eternal war
You wished to meet me and you, I could not simply ignore
You in stark contrast to me with skin so exotic it surely tempted my resolve
Yet in that reality it was customs that still prevented us
Yours a religion, mine a hapless marriage
Yet in that life still your dreams forever after fantasized
It was me that your heart could not rationalize

At last this life requested a better encore
For instantly upon first sight, we knew each other from our sorted past
Nothing to stop the intensity of that draw, we lived a few moments, took that chance
My heart by you was entranced
Yet this love was too much, the fear of generations overcame you and to me you said this cannot last
Into the darkness you disappeared, you forced me to let you go
Yet in this life my dreams still fantasize
You, my heart cannot rationalize

In a lifetime far from here
In a place where we live and love and nothing can prevent
What surely life could have in store
If only, if only we could believe in a life of limitlessness
Until then you remain in the past
And in your life your dreams will still fantasize
Me, your heart will never rationalize

I really loved this. For me it felt like she was chasing love, it was right in front of her yet, she couldn't reach it. It was amazing. I love the idea of love at first sight, and also the war and tragedy. Enjoyed it. Keep it up.
