Curse Unbroken

Curse Unbroken

A Poem by Poetrylover

"young, wild and free’, The anthem for all peeps of her age
But in a split second reality finally dawns on her,
an unexpected manifestation.
right in front of her dull timid tired eyes
the revelation and the truth unfolds
at 15 to start learning about responsibility
just like all her sisters worse still face condemnation.
Right in front of her lay the pale malnourished tiny body covered in blood
Loud screams pierce deep in her ears but she is without the strength to hold, caress and silence the little ‘creature’
Deep down in the contours of her head she knew,

“Society will mock and curse
I will become an example for other girls during ceremonies
When I walk pity, disgrace and shame will follow.
But I knew the gods have also cursed my tribe too.
The astonishment on the midwives faces when he arrived, other pregnant mothers too.
Once again, the curse unbroken ‘a child with NO SKIN’!
No one will walk near worse play close to him.
why me?
My aunt the Head witch has again bewitched the family.
Abortion or suicide had been a better option.
Full of anger and fury coupled with shame elders will gather and society will condemn and curse.
Because of this insanity
Names will be labelled rain will not fall drought will come cattle will die
Hate, disgust, mischief, curses, discrimination, insults, threats…will follow
but
I can not murder now for it’s a sin against the Almighty.
Holy Mary see us through
It is time to run
For there is no place for us in this society”!
