the world

the world

A Poem by RuseInex

i was given a heart to fill
but i was given but little
to fulfill

my heart broke
in this shortcoming
i yearned to,
but could not sing

i yearned and squirmed
as i could not reach

i could not find,
to hold
to play
to sing that
which was trapped,
that screamed.
to be released

so hard to hold inside
that was so ready,
so ready to explode

like a wolf howling
at the frozen moon,
his lonely pain unleashed,
my voice
inside of me,
burst

with little power
to reverse the damage,
to arrest the force,
that daily kills,
that suffocates
the blossom,
that would emerge,
for the world kills

such iron holds
such merciless teeth,
such cruelty,
that grinds tender youth

i grew to be a battered-torn,
a fragment
of what's left of me,
a mostly mute
relic,
of what becomes of most of us

for the world kills,
it kills the innocent
