Umbrella

Umbrella

A Poem by Sean

I went for a walk to fall in love again

And breathe in the city affair.

The romp and roll of Tenderloin

To the noise of Union Square

I went for a walk to fall in love again

And regain perspective lost.

The juxtaposition of suffering and swagger,

Dreams bought and sold,

Ambitions grabbed and tossed.

I went for a walk to fall in love again

With the sin of city saints.

The street singers, paint can bangers;

The tourists and tired and trying to get by;

Shoppers and stoners and those stuck

In ruts and trolley tracks.

The music of malady and delusion

Chiming what only they know to be true.

The corner store refuge

From sideways falls, defying all umbrellas.

I went for a walk to fall in love again

And the city filled the hole.
