ATTEMPTED HAPPINNESS

ATTEMPTED HAPPINNESS

A Poem by SHEEMA HUQ

Attempted Happiness

Forget about this opportunity to win......

Forget a hyena’s smirky grin, belly laughs

or the foamy splashes of scented water,

during a sumptuous bath.

Forget about angling or mountaineering

In fact, forget anything vaguely,

adventurous, fun or exhilarating

I want to appeal to the terminally

pathetic, whose outlook is generally gloomy

 and righteously hectic…

And before you regard me as a devious cheat

I readily anticipate resounding defeat.

And I duly confess, that my dismal

 glumness, has gained notoriety and

therefore any notion of ‘happiness’

is exempt from my bleak and witless

 poetic vocabulary.

Though, I would happily burden

the nation with miserable words of

turmoil and deprivation.

For, I write for die hard doubters,

the morosely pessimistic,

for down - trodden depressives

 and mistrusting cynics. Rendering

 my competition entry:

with sullen pomposity as exemplary,

of complete useless-ness-ity!

Funny the things that make people happy. Nice gestures can make one happy, or making someone else's life miserable can make one happy. Happiness is a very broad word when trying to determine a definition, but happy is what ever you want it to be I suppose. Very nicely penned here. I like this.

back again, today the collective boat speeds with the weight of thoughts even a load of gloomy ones will speed the energy, frequency, wave length. Then a media 216 members ,astrological works, layers into my space." Tacos" (Greek) means with increasing Frequency, like a toilet paper roll gets faster as it gets to the end.

I thank you for your scientific appraisal
Bravo!!!!!!!! You did an excellent piece with these words. I have written using words given to me a few times and it is hard. It is hard to do when you write from the heart and put every emotion you feel on paper. When you are given words that are not what you feel in your heart at ther time, it is really hard to use them....you did well :)

the wordplay is a success... for me it's hard to write about happiness, i tried it before and i can only make more sad and gloomy poems... but my hopeful side always shines at the end....

This is a poem about writing gloomy, except the tone throughout is so wry and witty, a bit ironic in that way:) And the tag line at the bottom... lol... Very fun, this piece.

You are a clever writer, Sheema! I like what you do. This is inspirational and, well, tough? Can't find a better word to describe it.

Thank you so much dear Siren for this kind accolade :)
oh woe is me! Reminds me of that song from the old C&W Show HeeHaw... 'Gloom despair and agony on me! Deep dark depression, excessive misery! If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. Gloom, despair and agony on me!'

I really appreciate your review Mark.
Nice wordplay, Sheema.
Forgive me if I won't make a nice review or an interpretation here, but only a reaction. Everyone wanted to be happy..that's the reality. Even the writers who continuously make poems with such negative themes- failure, deceit, weakness, etc- still what they want is the opposite of those things. And I'm one of them.

It's alright, Sheema. It's better late than never. LOL.
You're welcome.
For me, in summary, you will find a wonderful metaphor in this poem about life, and in general a game, or gaming several different ones... for me, life is always a game of trial and error, so is poetry. Good piece Sheema! thought provoking.
