Franklyn's Tale - Winter

Franklyn's Tale - Winter

A Poem by SS2Dante
"

The second part of Franklyn's Tale.

"
The snow brought a chill
like those diamond eyes.
His soul was frozen, crystalline.
Brittle,
like it could be shattered again.
It wasn't slipping now. It wasn't.
It was a great lake,
iced over by the great chill.
The weight of Franklyn bearing down,
the ice had begun to crack.
He...I...it, needed another.
And we found her.
Elizabeth. Ballet dancer,
smile like an angel.
A swan on his lake.
He took her to the theatre. Beautiful,
watching those actors throw up the mask.
They held the mirror up, all right.
She laughed and clapped
like she had done it all her life.
After, they went to a bar.
Franklyn bought her drinks
to leave her sense in. He
was hungry now
and her smile didn't look so heavenly.
Back to his den. She was laughing,
her eyes alight with passion.
Angels didn't dance like this.
She melted into him,
and he gazed into those eyes.
Those eyes! Warm, yet cold.
A hint of diamond. Those eyes
that wouldn't have seen ol' Frankie!
He gently put his hands around her throat,
and watched those eyes widen.
He crushed her delicate little throat.
Squeezed and strangled,
took the warmth right out of those
pretty little eyes. Took it for my - himself,
left her eyes as empty as a diamond.
Franklyn laid her down. Poured himself
some mature whiskey
(one hundred dollars a bottle!)
and considered that this time
it might stick.
After that, well. Took her down to the cellar.
Put her beside all his other loves,
all in a row. Beautiful dolls.
Classy, expensive. His own little
high society.
He straightened them all out.
Opened the eyes. When he was slipping
he didn't like them open;
they scared him. Mocked him.
Said he wasn't good enough any more.
Today though, he felt good.
Open, they were like his own little collection
of fine jewels.
Terisa's emeralds glinted,
and matched Elizabeths sapphires just so.
Franklyn sat in his armchair,
in his fine apartment,
watching the snow cover the world
and all it's sins, and wondered vaguely
when the thaw would come.
And then came Spring...

I like what you have going here with Franklyn. You do a good job carrying over imagery from the Autumn installment too. I'm looking forward to the next one!
