Liberty

A Poem by Sammie Sanchez

All she wants is to be free. So why can't she be?

With these open eyes, she sees the world without living in it. She feels emotions without expressing them. Who could she tell, who could she trust? As her delicate heart, mind, soul, turned to stone. Her fake smile stuck into place from years of trying to seem happy.

She doesn't know real happiness but at least her eyes light up when someone seems like they love her. When someone gives her a second thought. To see her beauty under her harsh stone wall. To look past the psycho killers officially known as her family. She hates her life. And wants it to end, almost every day is a day she is surprised that she is still alive.

All she wants is to be free. So why can't she be?

I guess she needs to love herself deeply and truly, first.
Her happiness should not depend on anyone. Her happiness lives in the small things that she enjoys doing. She was born alone, and others were born alone.
If she loves herself first, her face will glow with true joy that springs from within.
She was born for a wonderful purpose on this Earth; and that's why she must enjoy her life and everything else will fall in place.

I like the poem. I especially relate to the "being numb to love" part of it. There is a bit of dramatic irony in there which I especially like. It's the "Why can't she be free?" It makes you feel like reaching out and saying, "let yourself be free."
As to your note, I think it would be beneficial for you to write more often. I've taken a break too. I might get back into the swing of things as well.
