A Poem by Alexandria Reece
"

frozen, a lament

"

Where snow falls silent through the trees,
Frosty gusts freeze all the leaves,
Branches bow with icicle,
It's there you'll know my heart.

When cold winds tear through solemn pass,
And seas form into walls of glass,
The shores a'spark with icy dust,
It's there you'll know my heart.

About the dead trees frozen, bowed,
Beneath the dire sweeping cloud,
A harsh grey sinking through the weeks,
It's there you'll know my heart.

In hopeless fits of hailstorms,
And ice-lain mouths of maelstroms,
Where water freezing breaks the wood,
Certainly, there you'll know my heart.

A death wish caught in frozen bowers,
A frosty field that yields no flow'rs,
And as the tears freeze to my face,
It's here you'll know my heart!

And unlike Robert Frost who left,
And later silent riding wept,
I'll lie down in this welcoming snow,
For then you'll know my heart.

Emo, but honestly how I feel at times. I wrote this when I was 20, in class with my favourite professor thinking on unfortunate situations.

emo? really? but what is poetry without it? quite flat, i'd say.

your imagery is remarkably salient ~ very effective at reducing body temperature to zero! "And seas form into walls of glass," gorgeous!

your repetitive refrain is masterful in bringing the focus ever and again on the state of your heart. beautifully crafted verse with rhyming worthy of kudos. well done!

A death wish caught in frozen bowers,
A frosty field that yields no flow'rs

That is poignancy incarnate! I am so in awe of the thoughts and feelings you have invoked in me as I read this, and the way it was written was so flawlessly free. It was surreal and so captivating, I could feel the frost harden my veins and still my thoughts as I immersed into this wintry scene of hopeful longing. You write about love much the same as I do, I feel that we are kindred souls searching through the same darkness in a cloud of dust... also, so enjoyed this portion of your piece:

About the dead trees frozen, bowed,
Beneath the dire sweeping cloud,
A harsh grey sinking through the weeks,
It's there you'll know my heart.

A harsh grey sinking through the weeks... fantastic line, it so touches me. And you were so right to add an ode to Robert Frost here, this composition rings true to his greatness. Your writing is gorgeous and sensational, i'm definitely keeping this one. ;)

P.S. "With my lightning bolts a glowing, I can see where I am going now..."

What a powerful, poignant pulse... the absolute agony of isolation... the wildness of a winter's world within... I could relate all too well to a life found in iced shadows... Hoping with all my heart that you never feel this way again, dear poet...

This is a well-written poem. Though somewhat sad and blue, it still is emotional and relevent. Many of us go through periods such as these. The funny thing, to me, is how it still conveys a certain beauty of winter, icycles and stormclouds, icy sparkles and such. I like the relative simplicity and structure. It's easy to read and comprehend. Good poem.

expresses despair and the desire to lose oneself to the oblivion of the bitter cold. the imagery is beautiful, enticing even. it makes the choice easier to lie down in the snow.
