To Stand Upon

To Stand Upon

A Poem by Mark Anthony Santa Cruz

If I should stand beneath this
Tree; to toil upon the endeavors
That to make my obligation Clear
And to attempt what hope may
Be needed to grope another day,
Then be baffled I must, for
The heart may choose to mingle
With thy enemy.

Then should I stand upon this
Tree, with valiant thoughts and hopeful
Dreams, then to ponder the thoughts
for another day. Let the heart
Remain unaware of the obstacles that
Lie ahead; let thy heart be
puzzled for another day. So that
The heart may grope in vain;
And if it shall be his
Wish. Then it shall be my
Deed. To see it through to the end
