To be Exhilarated

To be Exhilarated

A Poem by Sarah_Allen

If in exhilaration,
If in a moment,
If in a second I didn't have,

If in curiosity,
If in my wonder,
If in a lifetime ripped of paths,

If in determination,
If in a brave stance,
If in a power of utter wrath,

Could I have foreshadowed,
Each jagged black line bleeding,
Each separate story teller,
With open hearts receding

Could I have prevented this?

I really like the juxtaposition that wind through this piece. Time without time, curiosity without option.. it gave me chills the first time I read it.

Thank you SyW, that means so much to me :D
It really depends on what exactly it is that you are thinking of preventing here. As I see it, some things could have been, some not so much. When thinking back on them we see the picture much more clearly and with a few more insights and perspectives, so it's easy to think if so and so thing was done/not done then maybe yes. But, like a friend once told me, hindsight is 20/20. :D

I liked the line "each jagged black line bleeding". Is that about writing? I assumed bleeding black line as ink from the quill. Do correct me if I'm wrong here, Sarah. :)

Well each stanza made me think in this brief and perhaps soulful piece of regretful reflection, ending in an age old question.

thank you so much for stopping by! I appreciate your review! :D
I think wishful thinking is what keeps us going for the most part. The what ifs in our lives...but I do believe there ain't any preventing of what's supposed to happen. One could delay it maybe, or take an alternate path, but eventually? You get to see it happens anyway, and that's talking about whatever you have in mind and not necessarily pointing to a specific scenario. The question which bugs me the most is that what importance do we humans hold in this world then, if we don't really have a choice to alter our lives?...Sure, some would say we always have choices and choose what we do and don't, but I still am unsure about believing that we can prevent something if we come to know of a specific happening. idk, lol I'm rambling but your write here is good and making my brain cells work a little ;P
'open hearts receding' - in as much sad as it does read, I like that line the most...
Always nice reading you, fp. xx

And vice versa. You're welcome, Sarah.
i don't think you could have prevented it...life happens, people happen, and we react to others and they to us....but cannot predict...and all the twists and turns we might make to avoid confrontation, to avoid hurting others or being hurt...in the end, may have no effect at all.
