A Dying Poet's Sacrifice

A Dying Poet's Sacrifice

A Poem by Sarah_Allen
"

A slam poem

"
So you say there’s something wrong with me
From the lyrics of the song I sing
To the mirrors we anoint as kings
Choke on words- but you’re still breathing
Retreating-

Into the shadows we’re made of
Worship obsession and call it love
How can you say you’ve had enough
When your whole life you’ve lived on luck?

I choke on words and suffocate
Dreaming of worlds we could create

I tried to fit in and ended up deformed
Whipped like an animal and forced to perform
They hailed me as a royal with the crown of thorns
A slave to the system since the day I was born

So scream in my face for the lyrics I sing!
I bleed the words God gave me
Tear myself apart for entertainment
And you labeled me insanity

You don’t know what it means to breathe!
To let the emotions cut in deep
-Let them pierce your skin till you start to bleed
And rip your heart out for the world to see

As Edgar said, we’ve loved alone
I keep telling you, this isn’t my home
Somewhere out there I’ll find myself
Maybe before I kill myself
Maybe then I’ll find my peace
And the pain inside will start to ease

There’s only so much blood one can bleed
My writings a threat, but only to me

Author's Note

Sarah_Allen
People tend to forget how a writer can get lost in their works. Tearing one’s heart out over and over for entertainment can get tiresome. One can only bleed so much before they give in to the tiredness, and let go. It’s about depression, madness and losing hope...

Thank you very much for your review :)

The poet is the only true observer of their lyric. We "tear ourselves apart" or open our dark thoughts to "entertain" or share openly that others may explore or recognize their mutual human journey.

Frankly, many are not up to the opportunity we offer. The odd thing to me is that it surprises me when they miss what I am attempting to say and thus the opportunity.

Thank you for your bravery.

This is immense and powerful Sarah. Very emotive and bleeding. It will be all ok and please never lose hope. We all have to struggle and survive among all those ups and downs. Your emotions do run deep and your will is sharp and steep.

Powerful words Sarah. Great expression and I felt that heartfelt struggle that your "alien" self has living in a hostile world where you aren't understood. Splash it across the page if it makes you feel better. Call me daft but when I read you I saw ET wanting to go home and I loved ET. Whatever, don't lose hope. I do like happy endings. Sending you hugs ((.))
