The Tongue That Dares

The Tongue That Dares

A Poem by Savannah Bly
"

Dare.

"
The Tongue That Dares
Society bases value by the dollar
Forgetting emotions
Tells us where we fit in
And who we can never be
It is sad how we throw away
Written words
They are easier to burn
Easier to forget
But spoken words stick to the brain
Creep and devour our inner thoughts
Consume us inside out
We can't forget
Publish your writing
And they will burn without reading
But don't you dare speak your words
They'll cut the tongue who dares to say "You are wrong."
Dare to know the importance of both written and spoken word
Dare to read the words painted on pages
Dare to speak with the tongue they wish to kill
Dare to live when tongues were lost yesterday--
In a blood-filled war of words and power

words had more power back in our sixties...it seemed so anyway...and the written words also..

but now rebelling against what we aren't comfortable with gets slammed down almost immediately.

government, society is big on status quo..

but we must remember, they can't cut out all of our tongues, and they can't silence all of our pens.

the blood will spill but we will prevail.

i am glad you dared to write this.

No prob :)
I'm glad to see you penning the angst I'm certain you are feeling--ah, the politics that exist in speaking one's mind. Continue speaking truth to power in written word and in spoken word as often as you can! You are a strong woman--let that light of yours shine!

Thank you. :)
The pen is mightier than the sword as love is mightier than hate. Stand up for what is right no matter the naysayers. An excellent message here...:).............

You are welcome muchly...:)....................
Savannah, this is a very strong poem. I love the dare refrain at the bottom. Our society has, indeed, changed....and I'm not convinced it is all for the better. There was a time when people who disagreed could be civil with each other, but today....that is almost not tolerated. Someone will be silenced through fear or intimidation, or litigation...sad state of affairs.
