The Chimes

The Chimes

A Poem by Savannah Bly
"

Do you hear the chimes?

"
The Chimes
Do you hear the chimes
That mark your end in time
They sound in rhythm and rhyme
As they take your worth in dollars and dimes
And you lie dying still with that last chime
Because they said the thoughts you keep are a crime

Savannah, this poem reminds me of the chimes and chants at church when the procession is making it's way down the isle....perhaps at a funeral...and the person dying has not imparted everything they need to say to the family. I know that's probably way off, but that thought keeps bubbling to the surface of my brain. Jacob's probably correct with the idea that it's a crime for a writer to keep his thoughts to himself...but i love the visual and auditory sentiment in this one. Very beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us...:)

our thoughts are priceless...maybe it seems a crime to keep them to ourselves...but all the other stuff they can calculate and take away from us...

the thoughts...those are ours...as we hear those chimes that signal the end.
