The Urge to Wonder

The Urge to Wonder

A Poem by Scott Thomas

Up the hill I stagger;
Fatigue
Heaving with every breath
Seasons changing with me

My legs chop their way through;
Broken
Climbing against the density
Heart and mind meet in despair

At the midpoint I rest;
Ponder
Looking down the path I tread
Curiosity filling the grooves

Standing with uneasy confidence;
Doubt
Urging myself forward
Pushing against my will

The top I reach with resentment;
Discourage
Peering at the wall I've reached
No further passion do I have

I sit in silence at that point;
Peace
Thinking through my broken self
I feel a certain urge to wonder
