Simplify My Life.

Simplify My Life.

A Poem by Bryan Sefton
"

Recognising what you have.

"
Keep it simple when assessing my wealth
Say he was a miser, say he was a hoarder
Say he took wife
Raised kids
Gained grandchildren
Drank in their love
Fed on affection
Milked them shamelessly

Keep it simple when assessing me
Simplicity is my aim, I am not ambitious
I do not seek fame
Into the world I came
With nothing
Left with same
Time spent?
Content

Keep it simple when telling my story
Wife. Children. Grandchildren.
Each a glory
Each a blessing
Say he had a simple faith
Say every day was a prayer
Say every prayer was answered
Thank the Lord.

"Simplify, simplify," the adage of Thoreau in Walden. I completely agree. I like to write rhyme but not every poem must rhyme and I'd rather it didn't rhyme at all as to read a forced or a bad rhyme. I've always encouraged maintaining an "attitude of gratitude" because I believe nothing in the world is more beneficial to the human psyche. "It's very, very difficult to feel sorry for yourself while you're counting your blessings" as my mother put it. I think so much anxiety, stress and depression might be avoided and staved off in just that fashion, simple thankfulness for life and the living of it. I enjoyed your poem and the message behind it. Here's to keeping it simple and thankful, F.

If only more of us had the same sensibility you display in this poem Bryan. There'd be a whole lot dissatisfaction, and a hell of a lot less mindless consumption.

Thank you Ken. Keeping it simple is quite simple realy.
Ah yes, being happy for just being here is the answer... Enjoying our lives and as we get older ...keeping our lives simple.
Your words ring ever so true.

You are so very welcome Bryan
Gratitude is close behind love in the order of finer consciousness, and this offering is a hymn to it. Many who have cast a large shadow across the stage of history might be envious of the speaker in their deepest minds. No one who could recite these lines honestly could be unhappy.
