A Poem by Seyi Ojenike

I awake
To the weary feelings
Of this wilderness.
Half spent my life
Dwelling amongst unclean people,
In this dark haze.
My unclean lips
Exhausted to be sanctified
Without cause,
But willing, of the maladies of this
And yet I seek sanctuary
From unknown malignancies,
Thoughts of which
I shudder to.
And in my search for light
Only to find dim and
Fading ones
Whilst the brighter glows
From afar.
And in my struggle to get away
From here,
Into the light I see,
My steps uncertain,
As I am gripped with fear
Of slumber.
Slumber for eternity.

Author's Note

Seyi Ojenike
The poem is speaks of life 'wilderness' and its good 'Light' and evil 'Dark'... The 'Light' and 'Dark' also signify the religious authorities who are there to guide us and those who pretend to be.

Fear is powerful. Struggle is, also. And you wake each day with hope!

Brilliant! I loved the analogies in this piece. Life is truly like a wilderness at times. Sometimes we feel like we are simply thrown to the wolves so to speak. The world is a mix of good and evil. Sometimes evil puts on a mask of good, until one day their mask slips. Very well done ^_~

This has an eerie expression of a dark and dismal place, yet from afar there is light...so many layers to this brilliant piece. Great write!

Very articulate and profound. I like how you shed light on the inner struggle to seek refugee from a hostle and chaotic environment.
