I WANTED A DROP

I WANTED A DROP

A Poem by Shabeeh Haider

I wanted a drop you, sent me the sea,

I asked for a leaf, you gave me the tree.

I asked for some hope, you sent me a dream,

To bathe in your love, you sent me a stream.

I asked for a rose, you showed me your smile,

I took a small step, you moved back a mile.

I asked for a tear, you sent me the rain,

I wanted to write, you sent me the pain.

Wonderfully expressive phrases.
Relatable as well.
When you wish for something good, you always get the best.

Well structured!

Tazeen, thank you for your insight and your kind words
Such gently chosen words, such finely phrased threads of thought. In all honesty, having read your poem twice, still can't decide if you're talking of a love.. or of the love of poetry. Maybe tis both.. one to honour the other. Whatever, why ever.. this is more than worthy of a third read, Shabeeh!

Thank you Farmgirl
What a way to thank our pain giver Sir!
I took a small step, you moved a mile back, some people do this, Haider Ji, I loved the paradox And anti paradox you have brought out in some of the verses. I wanted to write, you gave the pain. It says all.
A strong emotion brought out using light and very touching verses! An amazing one for me, Sir. Thank you for sharing..

Bala, thank you for taking the time to stop by.
Great poem Shabeeh. Especially the last line.
Only through pain can you write the story.

very powerful my dear as I read your work I always feel the emotion in them which is a great trait the structure needs work though. I have come to expect very powerful emotional messages from you, I hope i will continue to see that as i do here we all write what we feel it is our muse it is the ink in our wells if we did not have something to move us we would not have anything to write about.

it's really awesome... usually my writings are of this type.. and I believe, the only good thing about pain is it produces excellent poetry... I know, about your writings - they are sometimes yours and sometimes others' experiences... I truly am mad for your poems...they inspire a lot... and mostly touch my heart cause most of the time they are related to me... keep writing the best ones...
