Masquerade

Masquerade

A Poem by Wolf
"

The emotions of a man in love expressed deep within his soul

"
Will you ‘dance’ with me, around and around we go in circles
In tandem, this dance of life, toe-to-toe, step by step
Echoes of disbelief and mirth, Cupid strikes once again,
I’m falling, I’m lost, your eyes seek me out, like the tigress who stalks her hapless prey
Yet I hide behind this mask of desire, for mine is a position of power and prestige
Victim of intrigue, or has my eternal quest realized its finality
And my resolve to find what I’m looking for continues… unveil the mystery, my duchess
Am I back to square one, or have I reached full circle
Is this the end of the line? Or is it just a masquerade?
This manly passion, the fire in my loins, this intangible desire
To conquer, to make you mine, to possess you, Helen of Troy
Further from the truth, this is my addiction, my faux pas
Fiercer than ever, am strung out on your love
Kaleidoscopic, myriad-like, emotion has taken over me, reason has abandoned me
And I find myself in a trance, vice-like grip, stronger than ever
If it is finesse that I possess, all you offer is naivete, and it will suffice
Mesmerizing, when you hold me in that gaze of yours, let go yet don’t let go
Cleopatra, is that your name? Woman of all women
Then my name is Antony, and I bow to your earthly graces
Back to square one, or have I reached full circle
Is this the end of the line? Or is it a masquerade?
