My Body Electric

My Body Electric

A Poem by Shakier Samie

I Sing the Body Electric;
As Whitman does, so do I --
Back inward-arching,
Arms stretched upwards in praise, palms facing the darkened sky,
Knees in the cold soil,
Head moonward-howling,
Mouth agape; the hoarse vibrations escaping from within my throat.
This song I sing for the stars glancing down through the mist.
I, geocentric --
The bodies of men, Nature and women circle around my core
Attracting all that which attracts me,
Eyes that now see the world in changing waves of colour.
This song of my Soul tears through the distance that separates
My voice echoes cislunar --
Passing from star to moon to star to Man, and beyond
Energising the fabric of atoms and space in between,
My voice Becomes the Universe;
Everlasting, sempiternal.
As the final rough note leaves my body through heated breath,
My Soul sheds the burden of flesh and bone -- ecdysis,
A Beautiful Transmigration.
I pass the Earth, yet still am part of it.
I, now heliocentric, watch the movement of all that is me:
Animate, lifeless, shapeless.
All that exists is a part of me
And all that exists is my Soul.

My Soul, my Song
Ever Immortal

I love the subtle hints of Whitman and Lana in this poem. A poem that I'm sure Whitman himself would be proud to be referenced in.
